Inside Brü Tap House at night — the bar, the tap wall, the wine wall and the on-tap board

Downtown Tavares · Since 2015

Brü Tap House

A craft beer bar, not a brewery. Thirty rotating taps with a heavy Florida focus, 150+ packaged beers, wine, and craft sodas. Trivia on Wednesdays, vinyl on Thursdays.

Always rotating

The list changes constantly

That is the point. We do not brew — we pour other people's, and we are picky about whose. Thirty lines with a heavy Florida focus, turning over as kegs blow. Behind them sit 150+ packaged beers, wine, craft sodas, and non-alcoholic options.

On tap right now

Thirty lines, turning over as kegs blow, so the list you saw last week is already gone. What is pouring tonight is on the board above the bar.

Checking before you drive over? The live list is also on Untappd — opens in a new tab.

The food question

No kitchen. Still plenty to eat.

Brü is a tap house, not a restaurant — there is no kitchen behind our bar. There is one at the front of the building, and it feeds us. Here is how it works.

Order online

Wednesday through Sunday

BTW is the front of this building. Order from their kitchen and it comes to your table at Brü — burgers, tacos, waffles, cheese curds — every day we are open. Drink local, eat local.

Every day we are open

Kitchen service runs the whole time we are pouring. It closes before we do, so order before last call if you want food.

Regulars

Ten years in, and most nights the staff know the order before you sit down.

Wine too

A full wall of it, for anyone who did not come for the beer.

Board games

A shelf of them, free to pull down any night we are open.

Outdoor seating

A patio out the back, off Main.

The room, built by hand

The bar, the pallet-wood stools, the farmhouse tables, the tap system itself. Craig and Rebecca built the place in 2015.

Just off Main in downtown Tavares.

How this started

We built it ourselves

The bar at Brü Tap House — reclaimed wood, the tap wall and the wine wall behind

In early 2015 Craig and Rebecca both had corporate jobs and a short list of ideas: an animal rescue, a micro-brewery, or a craft beer tap house. They spent their weekends visiting breweries and taprooms, and what won them over was not the beer. It was the people — an industry where one brewery lends another the hops to keep brewing. They chose the tap house, so they could pour everyone's.

Working from online photos, YouTube, advice from anyone who would give it, and some construction experience, we built everything from the ground up. The bar. The pallet-wood stools. The thirty-tap system. Everything code did not require a contractor for.

Most of our friends had never held a nail gun. By the time we finished, they were all professionals.

Within the first year the landlord asked if we wanted the front units for a restaurant. That became BTW.
